Poem #103 - Free Verse Week - Life's Work

This story is true.  Mostly true, anyway.  My family used to have a dog named Valentine who always had a pile of biscuits near her bowl.  Once when my parents moved their 8-track stereo system (a very large piece of furniture), they found a humongous pile of biscuits tucked in against the wall of the living room.  I remember seeing that pile and feeling terribly sorry for the mouse who had clearly worked so hard and would come home to emptiness.

Students - This poem came from an old family story about animals.  Most families have such stories, about pets or livestock or animals in the wild.  You might wish to ask your family members about animal family stories, and list some of yours in a notebook.  Who knows...you may turn one into a poem or story today or someday.

  3. Dear Amy,
Not only are your poems great, but your illustrations are, too! You should really illustrate your next book of poems. Your pictures are kind of Shel Silversteinish, but with a LVish twist.

  4. Susan,
You are very generous...thank you for liking these little line drawings. They're fun and silly to make.
