A Place to Go - The Brain

Inside my Brain

Students - Sometimes people ask writers, "Where do you get your ideas?"  Here is one place where I find ideas - strolling around in my mind.  This works best when my eyes are closed and when I try to forget about all of my daily tasks by breathing deeply and relaxing.  To write today's poem, I imagined my mind as a place to walk around, and then I just described what I saw.  So in a way, this poem is a description of a place, a place that is partly real and partly imaginary.

This poem is made up of quatrains, or sets of four lines.  At first, I wrote it with all of the lines together in one big stanza, but as I typed, I decided to break it up.

What is in your brain?

  1. Wonderful as always, Amy. I try not to go into my brain too often, because I just come out more confused. :) I'm so glad you're recording your poems now!

  2. What a great idea to share with children. I often wonder and imagine what it might look like In their heads. This would be an interesting thing to ask them to try and describe, as you have. Love the illustration too!

  3. I love how you said you just sat & imagined, Amy. It's so good for students to learn that their minds are already filled with ideas/information they can use for their writing. Lovely poem of those rooms of the mind!
