8 - Poems Can Not Rhyme

Welcome to my 2020 National Poetry Month Project
See My Last 10 Poetry Projects HERE

Each day of April 2020, I will share three things:
  • A dice roll of three word dice
  • A video explaining one poetic technique titled POEMS CAN... You can also find these at Sharing Our Notebooks as part of my ongoing Keeping a Notebook project
  • A poem inspired by one or more of the dice words and the technique

Here are All of This Month's Poems:

And now, for today's words!

Thank you to Heinemann for giving away a copy of my book POEMS ARE TEACHERS: HOW STUDYING POETRY STRENGTHENS WRITING IN ALL GENRES each week of April. I will draw names from the previous week each Thursday evening at 11:59pm, and I will announce a winner each Friday. Please leave a way to contact you in your comment as if I cannot contact you easily, I will choose a different name.

If you would like to learn more about other National Poetry Month projects happening throughout the Kidlitosphere, Jama has rounded up many NPM happenings over at Jama's Alphabet Soup.  Happy National Poetry Month 2020.

  1. Just as little mouse needs the joy of the moonlight, we all need to find pockets of joy during this time of being distanced. With appreciation for helping us to remember that, Amy, through this wonderful little critter. This poem reminds me of the Leo Lionni book, Frederick. He helped his fellow field mice enjoy beauty during a cold winter just as your little mouse is helping to remind us of joy during this pandemic. Much gratitude!

  2. Oh my goodness, I am not surprised at all that you just appear to get better and better, but that is not true. You were better from the beginning. Such a gift you have. I adore this and the videos, the lessons, your book, and pouring a little moonlight in her paw to sip the magic of light. Thank you for all your brilliant work, Amy. I know that there will be a entire library shelf filled with your gems. You live your calling and I know Lee is just beaming down on you. And your notebooks and Betsy, well I can't just say enough. Thanks for all you always do. Janet Clare F.

  3. I love Little Mouse's collection of jars. I also thought of Frederick, one of my all-time favorite picture books. I think we all need a "spoonful of moonlight" these days.

  4. I watched your notebook entry video for this poem this evening. Oh Amy, what a warm and lovely spirit you exude. I love everything about this poem, little mouse, her jars of goodness, and the moonlight cupped in her paw. I also love how easily and naturally you speak to your listeners. Your writing camper, Betsy, is icing on the cake.
