Students - This morning my husband had a colleague over for a meeting, and so I decided to make jammy scones! These are a favorite of our daughter Georgia, and it was fun to make them again. Whenever I'm not sure what to do, I make something...and then all is well.

Here is the recipe for today's scones if you wish to make them yourself.

  1. I adore the line, "It need not be good." Don't we all need to hear that...that the process will be the reward, even if the result isn't what you hoped for.

  2. Yum! I LOVE scones! I’ll have to try this recipe. Thank you. I also love that line, “It need not be good”. It’s encouragement for me as a writer.

  3. Love it! Truly, making has kept me balanced during these pandemic days. The jolt of good feeling I get from baking, writing, crafting helps enough to be good medicine.

  4. What a delicious post! I love the lines "a person who makes/has a light maker heart". I appreciate the reminder that making something is a powerful act--an antidote of sorts! I will also definitely be trying that jammy scone recipe. Yum!

  5. I don't have many days of summer left, so I need to make something, something that isn't necessarily good but is a creation. Creating something is satisfying. Thanks for the recipe.

  7. Yesterday I finger painted with our grandson who was staying for his first sleepover (that he can remember).
    Love these lines:
    "a person who makes
    has a light maker heart."
Thanks for another delightful poem to encourage our efforts at making.

  8. I love making scones, but have never made these type before...they sound delicious! And my first thought when reading your poem was, "So when does "With My Hands, Pt. 2" come out?? ;)

  9. Thanks for your delicious post and poem Amy–and such a lovely rhythm and message it holds! I just mentioned to my students this morning in our online Figure Drawing and Painting class, drawings don't have to be perfect, cameras can do that… xo
