We REALLY need a book like this and your post is terrific as always, Amy. Look inside our hearts....that's where poetry starts and so so much more. I was in San Antonio for ILA a few years back and had a hand-out for my poetry work. One heading said something like, "bring joy to your classroom with poetry" and a woman told me that if I gave that out to schools, I would never get any work. There was not supposed to be any joy any more. I am glad to see that things are changing and really most teachers probably squeezed some in when they could, no matter what. Look at our hearts to reach minds. There has to be heart, there has to be joy. It's in our Constitution, you know, "the pursuit of happiness"......thanks to Georgia for a terrific follow up to her first book on heart mapping!!! When I was in school poetry was put on a pedestal as something only the greatest poets could accomplish, and certainly not something that just anyone could create or explore. I'm so thrilled to see educators, writers and poets helping children unleash their inner thoughts and express themselves.
