  1. I loved meeting and visiting with you at Texas Library Association in Houston. Your "Poemmittens" is my new favourite poem! I will aspire to make "every word a warming welcome" to those I meet! Tanya Tullos

  2. Dear Amy, I'm an English Literature Post Graduate who is scanning the world of literature and ELT to find themes/ topics of interest for my research. I came across your book Poems are Teachers, this year while I've been teaching English for the Secondary levels and it has caught my attention. I am considering taking your book to be my source for a research paper or a research thesis, I would love to hear from you on how I could go about this.

    1. I hope that you will find the book helpful! You are welcome to contact me at amy at amylv dot com if you wish. As far as I know, you may just use it. Simply cite it as a reference as you would with any other book, I would imagine. All the best!

  3. Hi Amy, I have come across your poetry recently and really like them. I know you write mainly for children but I think adults can also enjoy your work. I am deaf since early childhood and started writing my own poems about twelve years ago. I find this a useful medium for expressing my thoughts and emotions. Thank you for sharing your work. Kindest regards, Eddie Larkin, County Galway, Ireland.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Eddie. Do you share your poems online somewhere? I hope that you and yours are able to be in and together and healthy at this time. Poetry is indeed a balm and a healer. Take good care. Peace.

  4. Hello! I just came across this site and your recent poems Hi! and The Land of Notknowing. My first graders always started the day with a community circle in which we would pass a greeting and hug or "hi" five each other. With distance learning and practicing social distancing this past week, I feel we are really missing each other. I am asking if I may share these two poems with my class via our google classroom? We have recently finished up our Poetry unit and these poems speak directly to me. I would love to use them for a lesson for visual imagining along with a great advice for us to be safe and healthy when we are outside our homes. Thank you for your consideration!

  5. Hi Tonya, Absolutely. You are welcome to read any of my poems from this site to your children during this time. All I ask is that you not publish them in other materials such as Teachers Pay Teachers or books without checking in so that my agent can be involved. I keep this site for children and you may read and share via your classroom as much as you wish. Also, you may have seen that I am teaching daily writing lessons for children for the foreseeable future at my other blog, Sharing Our Notebooks. I welcome you to join me there. Be well. Peace. a.

  6. Hello! (I apologize for using this public forum; I wanted to email you but what is on the site doesn't seem to work.)
I am a reading practicum student at Barry University in Florida, and would like to ask permission to use stanzas from some of your poems to briefly demonstrate figurative language. I do not have a class at present, and right now with co-vid I can't even get a school to work with me! So I am creating a simple blog to hopefully reach some students. I plan to take the blog down after my practicum. I would say something like, "from the poem 'Shell Teeth' by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater. Then a note with a link: "To see the whole poem and more, visit the wonderful website...." Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much!

  7. Hello, Can I read your paper airplane poem to my elementary school for National Paper Airplane day on Tuesday? It's for school (closed) news at Horizon Elementary in Sterling, VA. Of course, I would put you your name and website to give you credit.

  8. I love your poems! I would like your permission to use "If I were an octopus" in a mixed media piece. Every year at Front Street Gallery in Poulsbo, WA we have "Ars Poetica" where we choose a poem and create an art piece based on it. If allowed to use I would credit you and your website. Your name will be in the art piece along with the poem. Oh, please say yes!!
