1 - Poems Can Go Down the Page

Welcome to my 2020 National Poetry Month Project
See My Last 10 Poetry Projects HERE

Each day of April 2020, I will share three things:
  • A dice roll of three word dice
  • A video explaining one poetic technique titled POEMS CAN... You can also find these at Sharing Our Notebooks as part of my ongoing Keeping a Notebook project
  • A poem inspired by one or more of the dice words and the technique

Thank you to Heinemann for giving away a copy of my book POEMS ARE TEACHERS: HOW STUDYING POETRY STRENGTHENS WRITING IN ALL GENRES each week of April. I will draw names from the previous week each Thursday evening at 11:59pm, and I will announce a winner each Friday. Please leave your e-mail address or Twitter name as if I cannot contact you easily, I will choose a different winner.

If you would like to learn more about other National Poetry Month projects happening throughout the Kidlitosphere, Jama has rounded up many NPM happenings over at Jama's Alphabet Soup.  Happy National Poetry Month 2020 to all!

Amy

  1. Amy, this is so clever and I love how your ideas emerged from the surprise roll of the dice, coupled with your brainstorming. I cannot wait to try this! All of your work is even more appreciated by countless students and teachers everywhere this year who are trying to distance-learn. Thank you for the joy!

  2. This is going to be fun, Amy, & I adore that you've connected "love" to that little mouse you got to hold. Happy Poetry Month, a wonderful thing to be online during this challenging time.

  4. I played with metaphor dice today too for my pomem for Friday. I look forward to seeing your "rolls" this month. I have to say my favorite collection of yours is the Thrift Store! That one went straight to this collector's heart! :)

  5. I cannot believe I forgot this was April and that it was poetry month...but I am in now! I am a 6th grade teacher missing her kids, trying to teach from home...I have felt very disconnected from my students so a way for us to connect is through "clubs" happening virtually. One of our clubs is a writing club and I have several who love writing poetry. I have put your blog down as a resource and cannot wait to begin this journey! This is my 3rd year...I think. :) I am working on getting caught up now!
